Day 25

I had classes this morning, but no work so it almost felt like a Saturday!

I woke up this morning and opened my curtain to this:

Looks like it's snowing! But it was super foggy!

I made a super awesome play on words with friends this morning. I used all of my letters!

116 Points!! Woohoo!
And....

I've got spirit, yes I do. I've got spirit how 'bout you?

Eh... spirit shmirit.

Until next time...

Day 24

I didn't do much but go to work and do some homework later.

Adorable children are much more exciting than homework, so :

'Look RaRa! Take a picture!'
So cute!

'I'm a model, you know what I mean...'

She wanted to take pictures making faces

Also, my books came in! Thank you Jesus!

And that was basically today.

Until next time...

Day 23

Monday.

I have an evening class that I don't just love. Thankfully it's only for 6 weeks and as of tonight, it's half over! I got tired of taking notes so instead I chose to do this:

I got a little dizzy doing this and now my hand is sore. But still more interesting than taking notes.

Also, today's dinner:

Cafeteria food: Hamburger, Salad, and Strawberries.
I checked my mailbox today hoping that I would get one of the books that I ordered last week. I need to have it read in about a week and a half, so hoping to get it in soon! I got a slip that said I had a package and was a little disappointed that it wasn't one of my books, yet pleasantly surprised to find this:

My long lost file box!
So, I had this little file box due at the end of the semester in the spring for one of my counseling classes. I worked hard and had some really good articles and little tools to use in the future, and let's face it, the box itself is so pretty and I wanted it back! Because everyone had already gone home for the summer when the prof emailed to say that he was done and we could pick them up, I just assumed that he would hold on to the ones for people who aren't local and give them back at the beginning of this year. Also, I realize that I only live about 25-30 minutes away, but I wasn't going to waste a tank of gas to pick up a box. So when the first few weeks of school came and went without a sign of my box, I just assumed I wouldn't get it back. I had thought about emailing the prof a few times to see if he still had it, but kept putting it off. Yey! I got it back today!

Anyway, that's about all. I ought to go do some homework now so,

Until next time...

Day 22

The month is nearing the end. Will you miss my daily pictures?

Today after church we went over to my sister and brother in law's house to celebrate Katie's 10th bday (yesterday), and Emmitt's 7th bday (tomorrow). We didn't do too much, ate some hamburgers, the kids opened gifts, and then we had some awesome cupcakes.

They got these cupcakes for Katie:

And these for Emmitt:

HULK SMASH!!!

I ate way too much but had fun with the family.

Speaking of which. We can all blame my nieces for this. They showed me this video today that is so weird and funny, and now it is stuck in my head:

Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding.

You're welcome.

Until next time...

Day 21

Saturday!

I slept in and did nothing for most of the morning. It was glorious.

After a while I did head out to school to go to the library. I had some reading that I needed to get done from some books that I don't have and can only find there. The school library's hours aren't terribly convenient with my schedule so going all the way back to school to read 10 pages and check out a book was slightly disappointing for a Saturday. Oh well. Some things just must be done.

Later in the evening, Kodi and Shawn and I had a good time around the fire pit burning a variety of things. Wood, naturally, but also leaves, check registers, and the occasional slug. Hopefully no slug juices flew up onto my marshmallows as I roasted them! ;) But either way, they were tasty, so all is well.

Fuego!
Well,

Until next time...

Day 19

Because we're going back in time.

Also, this happened:

Mr. Gyro with friends

Gosh. I adore both of these women. They are both so incredibly wonderful. And we have so much fun together. We met for lunch today to celebrate Sarah's birthday as well has have a little farewell for her. She's headed back to Italy tomorrow and I likely won't see her for at least 6 months. I'm excited for her to be able to get back 'home' and finally be with her husband, but to be honest, I'm sad for myself.

Goodbyes just never get easier.

But I am so thankful for all of the technology that allows us to be in contact!

Until next time...

Day 20

Today I worked. I like my job, mostly because I really like the family I work for and I adore their children. Today I was feelin' like I wanted to cook a little something. A little more than just 'roni' (macaroni) and chicken (tenders- which they were out of anyway.) So I made one of my personal favorites: Spaghetti!

These little girls just love each other and it's so fun to see them love on each other. In fact, lately L has been moving her chair around the corner of the table to sit next to D... she just wants to be with her. It's cute. So cue this cute moment:

Adorable!
L gave up on her plate of food and they both just ended up feeding each other from D's tray. They got soooo messy but had a lot of fun!

Also, last semester I started a Bible study with 5 other gals from school. One has since graduated, but the other 4 and myself have decided to continue on with our group. These girls have been a blessing to me, and especially since this year just feels weird (for all of us, I think. So many freshmen/transfers that the campus totally feels different), it's nice to have a little stablitiy and accountability. This is my friend Un Joo who showed up to our study dressed as Winnie the Pooh (as she does around campus from time to time):

Giant Asian Winnie the Pooh
So grateful for her.

Until next time...

Day 18

Wednesday!

So this last weekend when I was out hanging out with Kodi, we stopped at Old Navy where I did my usual scouring of the clearance section. Those that know me will attest to this: I love a good deal! So, when I found a shirt that was priced at $.47 I scooped it up! And here it is:

Okay, so it's just a black t-shirt. But don't forget, I'm secretly a hipster and love V-neck t-shirts. So to find one for only $.47 is enough to make my week!

Alas... I was feeling a little like Simon Cowell:

Seriously, branch out dude!
So to jazz it up a little, I added this scarf:

Better.
My lovely friend, Sarah, brought this back to me from her new home in Italy. She even searched for a scarf that was actually made in Italy, not China or somewhere else in Asia. It's green with little white and grey flowers. I love it!!

Unfortunately, it was too toasty to wear it most of the day. So I gave in and 'S'Cowelled' it up.

Oh, well.

Until next time...

Day 17

Is it seriously the 17th already? How did that happen?!

Today's pic:

Pickles!
Why am I showing you this? Well... because there's not much else from today to share.

I'm probably not the typical college student, for a lot of reasons. Having a jar full of giant pickles in my room is probably one of them. But they're a great snack. You get the salty crunch without all the fat and calories of potato chips. And I love pickles.

The end. For today anyway.

Until next time...

Day 16

Monday. Typically I don't like you, but today you brought rain and lovely temperatures. So, I'll accept you. This week.

Today's picture:

This is a screen shot of my phone, specifically the alarm settings. I use my phone as my alarm to get up in the morning... I'm betting most people do that these days. Well, today it failed me. See how the alarm for 6:45 is green? Green light go! Somehow it didn't wake me up this morning. Maybe it just didn't go off, but I would actually bet that I turned it off while I was sleeping. I've heard of people sleep-texting before and I honestly think that I turned my phone off while in some stage of sleep. Crazy.

So I woke up at 7:38 and nearly rolled over because I thought it was still really early. Thinking that your car has been stolen will sure get a person out of bed really quick, and it turns out waking up 22 minutes before class will do it too! And to make matters worse, I had a book that was due at 8 o'clock this morning.

Well, I jumped in the shower and took, probably my fastest shower ever. Dried off, dressed, dried my hair (and straightened it), put my contacts in, did my make up, grabbed my gear and headed out the door. I drove (because there was no way I had time to walk over to the library and then to class while making it on time!) to the library, dropped off the book and circled around to my class where I walked in at 8:01.

Solid.

This may be dangerous to know that I can do this... because next time I want to hit the snooze an extra time, I'll do so knowing that I CAN get ready and out the door in 20 minutes.

Until next time...

Sunday, September 15, 2013

Day 15

Well, I'm sure you're all just waiting with baited breath to see the 'after'.

Here is the before again:

aaaannnnnnndddddd.....

The after!!:
.
.
.
.
.
.

Just kidding. Thank goodness.

For realz:

Not the best picture. My cheeks look super huge. And my shoulders too. But you probably didn't notice that until I pointed it out. Shoot! But I like my new do. I chopped off about, hmm... maybe 10 inches at the longest spots? So far I'm diggin the short hair. It was super easy to do this morning and only took a couple minutes to dry and style. Also, I'll be saving on shampoo!

It is kind of short in the back, probably the shortest my hair has ever been.

Anyway,

Until next time...

Day 14

Saturday... I love thee.

Today was a great day. It was completely lazy and unplanned, yet productive and restful. :) I pretty much spent the entire day with Kodi. We started with breakfast at IHOP, went to a giant consignment shop, did some more shopping, ate some more, lounged... etc. I would like to throw out there that I purchased 2 brand new shirts for a grand total of $3.19. Win. I'm a bargain super hero.

Another thing that I did today. I altered my appearance slightly. This is the before:

And the after? Well... I'm gonna make you wait a little. :)

Until next time...

Lucky number 13

Friday the 13th... Dun dun DUN!!!

Whew talk about scary! Let me tell you a short story...

My bed is really comfortable. Like, super comfortable. My sheets are so incredibly soft, like buttah! So, most days, waking up and getting out of bed is usually a struggle. This morning however I got this text from my RA:

What?!
This got me out of bed real fast!

Thankfully, my room is on the parking lot side, so it just took a quick glance outside to see that my car was still there! Whew! It turned out to be a false alarm. I think a security guard saw someone pick up a car in the early morning, but it just turned out to be a parent of one of the students. Oops.

But at least someone's got their eyes out!

Also, funny that just yesterday I was scaring my mom with a text and here we are today... :)

Until next time...

Thursday, September 12, 2013

Day 12

Sometimes, I like to pull a prank or two.

For example, once I left a fake poop on the toilet seat and waited for my mom to go in after me. Call me childish if you want, but her reaction was priceless. Another example of a well deserved prank: 'Heeeerrrreeee's Johnny!' And then there was the time that Kodi and I ordered a sample of men's adult diapers and had it sent to my brother's place. :) I'm still not sure that he knows it was us.

So...

Today I saw where some guy had posted on twitter to text a parent '2 grams for $40', followed shortly by, 'ignore that.' And then post the parent's reaction in the comment section of his post. You can read about it here (Fair warning, there is some language the farther down you scroll). So... I thought it would be funny to try it on my mom. I told my dad about it too and he thought I should do it. And I did:

:)
I would have let it go on longer but I was at youth group and needed to get moving. Don't worry, she still loves me!

Until next time...

Day 11

Another day, another blog.

Today... this semester's first paper. A research paper on the inspiration of scripture. Feeling a little stressed by the lack of time I have on this as well as the knowledge that the professor is a pretty tough cookie. I've been working for about 2 hours and this is what I have:

Uhh... I've got a ways to go...

Best get back to it.

Until next time...

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

Day 10 - for real.

Yesterday was not September 10th, therefore not day 10. Oops. Clearly no one reads this.

Alas, I continue on my way.

Today, I'm blogging from the school library because I have no internet currently in my dorm room. Tragic. But I'll survive. I might even try to get caught up on some reading.

Today's pic ... my current obsession:

Mild Buffalo Wing Cheddar Cheese

Oh. My. Word. So good! I'm trying to ration it because it was A. Expensive and B. Purchased about 2 hours south of here. That's a long way to go to get some more!

I found this little gem while on a recent road trip with some friends, you can read about it on Kodi's blog here.

Well. Dinner is calling, and unfortunately so is my homework. I'm working on my first theology paper (and by working on, I mean... I realize it's due in less than a week and have considered writing it.)

So... off I go.

Until next time...

Day 10

September is flying by! I can't believe it's the 10th already!

I really didn't want to get out of bed this morning, but I did. And when I opened my curtain, there was the most beautiful sunrise.

Well, my phone didn't quite capture the beautiful pink shade that it was. A beautiful sunrise is worth getting up for.

Also, this:

Ugh.

Friday morning I got in my car after classes to head to work and found a parking ticket on my front windshield. That always makes your day! I know, the security guards are just doing their job, but the whole situation was just a little frustrating.

A little background: In May, I think I had probably the crummiest hour of my life. I woke up (that wasn't the bad part. I'm thankful to Jesus that I did wake up) and immediately realized the power was out. There's no windows in the bathroom of the home that I was staying in so I couldn't shower there. So, since I was close to home I jumped into my car to head home for a quick shower before jetting off to work. I started the car and looked out the back window and thought... 'how is it possible that my window is frosted over, it's super warm out?!'. Well... it wasn't frosted, it was shattered. A piece of a limb had fallen out of the tree and must have hit my window just right. The hour continued to worsen, but we don't have time for that now. Just know that it involves, among other things, being pulled over without a driver's license or proof of insurance.

Fast forward to friday. I totally forgot that I had to have my window replaced this summer which meant that I no longer had a Calvary parking sticker. I haven't really been on campus much yet this semester and hadn't given much thought to a parking sticker, nor had I heard anything reminding us that we needed one. It's stupid, and really, there's no one to blame.

All that to say, as pictured above, I now have a parking sticker. Only, I haven't put it in my car yet. That will be done very soon. Also, you may or may not be able to see the picture of the car on the directions, but it's got a little Jesus fish and the license plate says 'Jesus'. I'm a little cynical and also annoyed by bumper sticker theology and thought that was just a little too cliche for a Bible college. Oh, well.

Until next time...

Day 8

Today was pretty average. Go to church. Eat lunch. Be lazy.

But! I also babysat for several families (all but one of them were strangers to me) who are all involved in a Sunday evening growth group. So I watched 7 kids for a couple of hours, they ranged in ages from 11 to not quite 2. I mostly just stood where I could see all three major areas that they kids were playing in and surveyed. Basically, I played supervisor. They were getting pretty loud and one of the parents even came upstairs to ask the kids to quiet down, so I put on a movie. And since the kids couldn't agree on what to watch (and the older ones claimed to have seen every movie 10x (side note: children watch too much tv. Also- I do too, so I have no room to talk. But the kids kept telling me that they were bored. Where's the creativity? I've often heard 'if you're bored, you're a boring person' and told them that. I hope that if I ever have kids I can encourage them to be creative and imaginitive and only use the tv from time to time. I'm sure every mother is thinking, 'Oh, Andrea... you have no idea.' And I guess I don't, but what did people do before tvs? But I don't have children, so why are we discussing this?! :p )), so since no one could choose, I imposed babysitter law and chose for them:

I loved these movies as a kid!
They were not thrilled, but I didn't care! Mwahaha, evil babysitter Andrea. That's actually on my business card. Adults specifically request me because I'm renowned for torturing children. What can I say, it's a gift.

So, now I have a few more dollars to put in my Italy fund.

Until next time...

Saturday, September 7, 2013

Day 7

Old Settlers!

I spent most of today at Old Settlers, starting with the parade. It. Was. Hot. And not just toasty, but more like sweltering. I held out until Olathe North (my alma mater) marched, then I booked it home to enjoy some shade and air conditioning. I got home and my dad was watching the parade on tv! Shoot, why did I bother going down there and sweating like a pig?! I guess because you don't get coupons and other goodies while sitting on the couch!! :)

Don't mind if I do 'Eat mor chikin'! Yum!

Kodi has been talking about wanting to try Jazzercise one day. I'm in the business of making dreams come true. Hoping that her and I can join a class in a couple of weeks.

I love freebies!

Also, I'm quite sunburned today. Even my lips. Oi.

Until next time...

Friday, September 6, 2013

Day 6

TGIF!

Not too much exciting today. Classes, work, home.

L was sick today so work consisted of watching a lot of tv while she rested on the couch. D was happy though, like always! So, since I didn't really have a picture that I took today, this is one from yesterday of L being silly.

Usually she wants me to wear these. They're cuter on her or D

And I had time after work to make it to Sonic's happy hour. A giant diet coke makes a warm summer day better. Especially when it's only a buck!

One diet coke, comin' right up!
Well... that's about the extent of my day.

Until next time...

Day 5

I need a break from homework. FYI- a note to the professor, when posting the scanned materials on the website for the students to read, please make sure that it's scanned in such a way that the words are actually legible. My eyes hurt from trying to piece together barely visible words.

Anyway...

So today was the first day of Old Settlers! Woohoo! As a kid, it was almost as exciting as Christmas morning. We live only a couple of blocks away from the action. I have a specific memory of sitting at the table eating dinner with my family - totally able to hear the noise from the fair - and being super antsy. I think my parents said that we couldn't go until after dinner... I don't think I cared about dinner that night, I just wanted to go!!

*Not my photo, but neat, huh?

Today was also the kick off for the new year of Trek (the high school youth group). We all met at my house, walked down to old settlers to watch several of the students perform with the Olathe North Band and then do scavenger hunt of sorts. It was a great start to a new year. We had lots of laughs and some ice cream sundaes.

Back to homework, thank you for the brief reprieve.

Until next time...

Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Day 4 - Woo hoo!

Are you enjoying the picture a day? I am! I hope that at least someone out there is! :)

Today I got back to the grind. Started off bright and early with classes. Church History and Systematic Theology I. This is going to be an interesting and stretching semester, I believe!

After classes I headed off to work. I would just like to say that I have the best job ever. For those that don't know, I'm a nanny for 2 precious little girls. They are adorable and make me laugh lots. It seems like cheating to get paid to hang out with them. Most days that is! :) We all have our bad days. I was kind of missing L and D after being gone for more than a week. I pulled up and could see L standing at the screen door waiting for me and could hear her shouting, "RA-RA, RA-RA"! Side note, this is what has become a nickname of mine, it seems pretty easy for little kids to remember and say. And I always wanted a nickname, so I'll take it. Actually, for a really long time I wanted people to call me Andie (after being nicknamed that in elementary school - all of the cool kids had nicknames!). Well it took me several years before it occurred to me that I actually would have to introduce myself as Andie instead of Andrea in order for them to call me that. Oh well. Ra-Ra is cool too. That was a bunny trail! Anyway, I felt very loved to see her so excited to see me. She was full of kisses and hugs and "I wuv you wa-wa"'s all day. It makes me think I must not be as mean as I think I am. ;)

So... for today's picture:

I started tracking calorie intake and exercise about 2 weeks ago, and I don't want to brag or anything... but I'm down 3 pounds! Okay, maybe there was a little bragging there. Actually, more just excitement really. Myfitnesspal is a wonderful app that is so easy to use and convenient. It sounds like they paid me to say that, but I promise they did not. I really just like it that much. I also have several friends who are using it too, so it's fun to know that I'm not doing it alone! All of that to say. I wanted to go for a walk today, but it was pretty roasty this afternoon and I'm not a huge fan of walking around my campus and surrounding areas. Apparently there were 3 rapes at the park down the street over this summer. Oops... hope my mom doesn't read this, now she'll be super worried about me. Don't worry. I have a rape whistle! :)

So, rather than risk the streets of KCMO, I opted to 'walk' in my room. Que Leslie Sansone:

It looks cheesy and kind of is, but my glutes are actually kind of sore! I like this because... well, it's all walking. I can walk. Jillian Michael's 30 day shred on the other hand... I don't like. It hurts, and I'm a weenie. But both are great workouts depending on what your goal is!

So, went to Target (I said that in my mind like 'Tar-shey'... like I'm French or something. FYI- I'm not.) for a few things today and happened across these:

PUMPKIN SPICE!!
Okay, I love fall, and I love me some pumpkin spice this and that. But M&M's? This is madness! Don't be confused... I may sound against this, but I totally wanted to try it. But seriously? Pumpkin spice M&M's? Yeah, I'd totally try that. Except, remember how I'm counting calories. A big ol' bag of chocolate just wouldn't fly. And, no, I shouldn't even just get a bag and ration it out over a couple of weeks... actually, yes. That's exactly what I should do, but I know I wouldn't. I have no self control when it comes to chocolate. Or any sweets. Or salty. Food, just food in general - I have no self control.

So... if anyone out there decides to get a bag to try, let me know how they are. Maybe save me a few. :)

Until next time...

Day 3

Tuesday the 3rd

Today I came back home from Wisconsin, but not before enjoying one last morning with Nina. We walked around downtown Waukesha and visited some cute little shops. We found one little store called 'Bags and Bangles' that was so cute. Seriously, if I ever come into a large sum of money, I'm blowing it there! Everything was adorable and very reasonably priced!

So, I'm betting you didn't know that Waukesha is the home town of Les Paul. Well, it is! There are fun 'Les Paul' guitars around the downtown area, and I just had to get a picture with one!

Nina & the ginormo guitar

Yours truly

Dave's restaurant. So cute, I took the pic for my dad
So, Luke and Nina had this HUGE zucchini in their kitchen the whole that I was there. I think they said they got it from his parents garden. I don't think I've ever seen one so big!

That's a lot of zucchini bread!

Also, just for fun. I found this at an airport gift shop and thought it was kind of funny.

I had the pleasure of meeting up with one of my bffs, Sarah, at the KC airport as I was coming and she was going. I just love her and was grateful for the hour that I got to spend with her. I have just been so blessed by the friends I have in my life. So, even though I had to say goodbye to Nina, it was nice to get a hello at the other end of the flight from another friendly face.

Well, I'm back home now, and back at school even. Vacation can't last forever. If it did, we wouldn't understand how wonderful it was without experiencing the slower, no fun kind of days.

Until next time...

Picture a day - day 2

Monday, September 2nd!

Man, was I sore today. I think Luke, Nina, and I all agreed to just lay low today after two busy days of go go go, and walking around Chicago the day before.

So, we did some light shopping. Goodwill had a 50% off of all clothing (and really, most everthing in the store!) for Labor Day. Nina and I perused the clothing and found some gems. I bought 2 shirts for just $2! Yey for bargains! We wandered through some other stores before grabbing some sub sandwiches from Jersey Mike's and taking it to the park. It was a beautiful day in Waukesha, only getting up to the upper 60's. I actually had a jacket on as we sat at a very shaded picnic table.

Such a lazy day - it seemed only right that we get some ice cream! We stopped at Woodman's, the hugest grocery store you'll ever find and each picked out our own ice cream treats. This was mine:

Excellent choice, Andrea. Worth every calorie!
We also watched two movies:

The Bourne Legacy

Sadly, a little disappointing. I wasn't sure what to expect since Jason Bourne's character wasn't really involved. The plot was thin and the action was not near as good as the original trilogy.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

I had seen this one before, and liked it. When Nina and I saw it at the library, I suggested that they might like it and add it to the pile of rentals! It was good the second time around too! I think that Luke and Nina liked it as well. My favorite quote from the movie is 'Everything will be alright in the end, so if everything is not alright, it is not yet the end.'

So, sorry, I don't have any personal photos of the day... it was just that lazy! But it was the best kind of lazy - enjoying the companionship of good friends!

Until next time...

A Picture A Day - AGAIN!

Hello to my 3 followers - you know who you are!

So, I haven't really been consistent with my blogging over the last two years (ah, heck! I've not ever been really consistent). But I was recently thinking about the times that I was most consistent, and it was the picture a day that I did for about 3 months (and about 3 years ago!). But I really enjoyed it because I felt like I was encouraged to really pick out the good in my day. Or the silly. Or the out of the ordinary. Also, the recent return of my friend Kodi to the blog world at Swandertopia, also whet my appetite to blog again!

So, I decided to bring that back for the month of September, and we'll see where we go from there!

Well, here we go. Day one: September 1st.

I've been in Wisconsin for the last several days visiting my cousin and her hubs. They live just outside of Milwaukee in a city called Waukesha. They live only about 2 hours away from Chicago, and seeing as I'd never been to Chicago before, I decided to seize the opportunity and suggested it to my family. They agreed with much enthusiasm.

It was a long day filled with lots of walking, and lots of aches for this old body (cue Garth Brooks' 'Much too young to feel so d*mn old'). But the pain was worth it for chance to mill around the city. We decided to park and ride the train into the city, about an hour and a half ride. None of us had ridden any public transportation in any city without the aid of a local before, so it was pretty exciting to actually end up where we wanted to go! :) The train stopped at a couple of military bases along the way where we picked up a LOT of sailors. We found out from the guy sitting next to us that his son was one of the newest graduates of basic, as were the other hoards of sailors aboard. That would definitely explain why their uniforms looked straight out of the packaging! It was fun though to see all of the newbies out celebrating.

So... about the pictures. Though this is called 'picture a day' I can't always promise that it will be a picture that I have taken, or that there will only be one. But there will be some kind of picture!

Let's get on with it!

Me, excited to have arrived!

We walked through were they were filming 'Transformers 4'!

Friends! On the Ferris Wheel

Other things we did: Walk. A lot. But I think I already mentioned that. We ate some tasty Chicago style deep dish pizza... for free even! They made us wait almost two hours and then it came out cold... but that's a story for another day. Regardless, it got warmed up and filled our [very] empty stomachs! We also walked around Millenium park and saw the famed 'Bean'. We rode on a trolley and saw some pretty cool architecture.

All in all, a really good day! It wasn't too hot in the morning and even in the afternoon was comfortable in the shade of such tall buildings! I do hope to go back and see lots more of Chicago!!

Until next time...
