Day 4!

So because this is my blog and I can do what I want, I'm including two pictures of the day! :)


This first picture is from the Johnson County Arboritum. Kodi and I went went there today and had a good time taking goofy pictures of ourselves and trying to get lost on some nice trails that somehow all went uphill all the time!! This is one of the pictures that I took of a hibiscus flower, my favorite! I especially love the colors of this one:



The other is of a wedding of two co-workers. I worked with them at the mall and can very clearly remember my first day of work there, the two of them were supposed to be training me and I remember thinking that they were doing a lot more flirting with each other than teaching me! And here we are, six years later, and now they're hitched! This is Marissa making her walk down the aisle to her groom, Zach:

Day 3!

Today the adult leaders and student leaders from TREK got together for a cookout at the Ewy's house. We had a good time out by the lake, the Friesen kids and Russ were the only ones brave enough to venture out into those chilly waters! We had some delicious burgers, desserts, and roasted mallows! It was just a good time to sit around the fire and bond a little between the students and adults. It was great and just makes me look forward to an awesome year with a great group of kids

Day 2!

And here we have Kyle doing what every great youth sponsor must do at some point, making a fool of himself! I think it levels the playing field with the youth and shows them that we are just as weird and awkward as they are! :) Tonight was our new school year kick off and since our theme this year is "Road Trip" all of our games tonight were centered around anything that has wheels. It was lots of fun and I'm looking forward to getting to know a new class of freshmen, as well as continuing to build relationships with the older students.

Picture-A-Day

And so begins a new project! A picture a day. Some days it seems like I do the same thing day in and out to the point where life just seems so dull. So my hope in this is that besides keeping my friends up on what's going on, I will be able to find a little glimpse of sunshine in my generally otherwise mundane days. So let's begin!




Goodyear!! Okay, so, a little background story:

I had a tire that wouldn't hold air so I took it to Walmart to have it patched. Besides the fact that they were very rude and didn't acknowledge me for quite some time (unless staring me down counts), I found out that I needed a special tire key to get the lug nuts off and they couldn't do it there. I left super frustrated and almost in tears. I called several places around town and each one pretty much told me that they would have to drill it out and replace it with new ones since the car didn't come with the key. Well that would add up to way more than I was wanting to pay. I called Goodyear and the guy was super nice and explained everything very well. So today I dropped it off and before I even left they already had my tire off! Woot woot! I was sooo incredibly thankful for kind people and a business that actually had the tools needed! And it didn't cost too much, PTL! =D So, not the most exciting potd (picture of the day), but perhaps in the future we will see some more exciting things!

So, not too long ago, I caught an episode of Dr. Phil where people were asking 'embarrassing' questions or questions that everyone wants to know but never asks! It made me think about my embarrassing questions! So here's one that's not too bad, but I have always wondered about it:

You know those tissue paper toilet seat covers? Well, after you're done using them, do you flush them or throw them away? It seems like something you should throw away, but no matter how careful I am, they always end up in the water so i just flush them. I tend to only use them in really sketch bathrooms, but would probably use them more if I knew the answer to this question! Do they dissolve like toilet paper? Ah! So many questions!!

Also- Did you know that they double as facial oil absorbers? How crazy that something so good for your bum could be great for your face too! =)

Those are a few of the lyrics from Ray LaMontagne's song 'Empty'. Great song, great artist! This is what I've been thinking a lot about lately. Emptiness. I've had part of verse 11 from Ecclesiastes 3 stuck in my head for the last couple weeks. "God has set eternity in the hearts of man". It just keeps ringing around in my noggin. Today, that verse was repeated in church and it made me wonder... really, what does that even mean? What does it look like to have eternity set in my heart? I looked it up in my wonderful little bible and the commentary said this: "Since we were made for eternity, the things of time cannot fully and permanently satisfy." Sooo true!! I've thought about this much today and considering the amounts of junk that I've accumulated. So worthless! It may satisfy, but only for a short time. Yet even as I write this, I'm thinking how nice a new iPod would be! I know this isn't anything new, but sometimes things like this just hit you, and today it's hit me hard! I still feel empty. You know you've heard the saying that everyone has a 'God-shaped hole in their hearts'. Well, I believe it. Even with Jesus in my heart, I still try and push him aside to make room for other things. Nothing satisfies like He does though. But even after a great time with Him, I'm still left wanting more. I guess that is truly having eternity in my heart. The only remedy is to be constantly united with Him. (So basic, yet so profound. And easier said than done!) My little heart will never be quite full until I'm at last reunited with Him! But in the mean time, I can certainly soak up as much of the Lord as possible.
